Entirely Disappointing

We’re pretty good at balking.

If this is what our aldermen get upset about, it says alot more about their character than it does about our taste for art.

You’re completely right, but that goes both ways. With all of the extremely serious probs that plague our city (50% minority unemployment, alarming infant mortality rates, alarming foreclosure rate, gigantic budget problems coming down the pipe w/ the steep drop in property values, it takes…a little art project to get the chattering class and public all enraged? That’s what dissapointed me.

I agree, JCG. It’s pretty pathetic in a lot of ways, but at the same time it’s good that people are able to get animated about something. I think one difference between the art project and the serious issues is that when it comes to serious issues, there’s no easy answer. With this art stuff, people just had to complain loud enough and draw the attention of the media so the aldermen would fall in line. With poverty, et al., there’s simply nothing immediate that can be done to effect the same type of change. That’s sad.

I think the art storm was over-inflated. Brenner was whining about pooping in aldermen’s yards — completely unnecessary and classless in a way that only drew attention to himself, not the art.

    Thanks for the comments!
